Sea Turtle Robotics is an innovative project led by two twin brothers passionate about scuba diving. We have designed a unique underwater drone aimed at filming divers from above them. This project, which is not intended for commercialization, reflects our shared passion for innovation and our desire to create solutions that enhance the underwater experience.
This website allows us to present our innovative system.Engineer specialized in aeronautics and space systems, passionate about the marine world, I designed and developed an underwater drone for divers and fishermen. I worked as a systems engineer and test engineer on several key areas:
• Hydraulics: Designed the sealing system and managed water flow to ensure stability, maneuverability, and protect internal parts.
• Electronics: Created control circuits for motors and actuators to enable precise and responsive control of the drone.
• Propulsion: Chose and improved motors to provide efficient movement and rotation underwater.
• Mechanical: Designed the turtle-shaped body for strength and smooth movement in water.
• Network: Set up a wireless system for surface communication, allowing real-time control of the drone via smartphone.
Passionate about innovation and diving, this project was for me a unique opportunity to tackle a complex challenge alongside my twin brother. My goal was not only to bring an ambitious idea to life but also to explore how far we could go, and test our ability to innovate and create solutions. I specifically worked on the telecommunication and digital aspects.
We have developed a Wi-Fi communication system for the drone when it is at the surface. When the drone is within 15 meters of the boat and at the surface, we can directly connect to the drone via Wi-Fi. This feature allows us to control the drone while it is on the surface by connecting to its Wi-Fi network, accessing it through its IP address, and controlling it through our smartphone.
The underwater communication of our drone relies on a transducer system designed to ensure a connection between the underwater drone and an operator on land or on a boat. We use acoustic waves because they propagate effectively in water. The goal is to maintain the most stable connection possible despite currents and waves. We control the drone via a computer connected to the Deckbox, which is linked to the transducer on the surface. Theoretically, our drone can be operated up to 100 meters away from the boat.
